It was great for me.................I don't hunt the early season so I was chopping wood. Great weather for that.
Just one more day

Great day!  I got my new bow all set up and ready to hunt and also made a trip to Wholesale Sports and the feed store, came home to 14 elk and 6 deer in the pasture.  What made it better was the fact that I didn't have to fight the pumkin patch crowds at Vail.  :chuckle:

:yeah:
I hunt the early season (Archery) for Elk, late season for deer.
But...
I was cutting firewood at my house and bringing down a few maples for next years wood.
I am getting a little p.o.ed at all the damage the deer on my property are doing to my apple and cherry trees  :bash:
wish late season archery was open in my unit (501) I would get some revenge.

I only spent the morning and afternoon in my hunting area today, seen lots of does, no bucks and only heard a few distant shots. But the crazy thing is I only seen half the hunters as previous years on opening day , not sure why but it i'm thinking it could be because of the discover pass  :dunno:

I have hardly seen anyone else with a discover pass.. I feel like Im one of the dumb few who actually got one. I have been looking at every truck recently to see who has one.. Not many. Hmm. I got one as soon as I heard about it. I spent about 8hrs in the woods today and saw nothing. Just other hunters, and some good sign. The first 3hrs I could only see like 30ft because of the fog. Fog didnt lift until 930. When it did lift I could see the orange glow of a hunter on the next hill about 100yds away.. =(

Too nice out weatherwise and too many people for me to really want to go after them.  Went to my normal access spot and the parking lot was overflowing.  Went to plan B, same story.  Plan C, again.  But it was sunny, no rain in the forecast, a saturday, and the national park had three of their major roads for hikers closed...try again tomorrow! :)

Couldn't find a B-tail, but the hunt did get interrupted when a small bear popped out :). If I can't find him tmr it will be off east of the mountains next wknd to look for the 2 point with an eyeguard that escaped the opening wknd orange fury.

Stained my deck  :)
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

The weather sucked earlier to day. It was foggy and moist until about 1030. We didn't see the number of deer we have seen in the past but I think it was because of the crappy weather. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
